Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, participated in the discussion of a doctoral thesis aimed at developing new hybrid rice varieties resistant to high salinity, presented by researcher Alaa Sami Al-Badawi, assistant lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture, Benha University.
Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy indicated that the thesis is part of Benha University's research program, which aims to develop new rice varieties and has been ongoing since 2019, in partnership with several local and international research institutions. He noted that the researcher has managed to obtain 21 promising hybrids that show resistance to high salinity levels. These hybrids will undergo evaluation tests to ensure the stability of their genetic traits and to compare them with local varieties, in preparation for taking registration actions with the Seed Registration Committee at the Ministry of Agriculture through Bidaya Company for marketing services of Benha University, as part of the university's strategy to invest in knowledge and research outputs.
The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, Prof. Ali Al-Hosari, Professor of Plant Breeding, Prof. Amgad Al-Jamal, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Tanta University, Prof. Salah Allam, Professor of Crops, Prof. Jaber Yahya, Professor of Crops, and Prof. Mahmoud Abu Youssef, Head of Rice Research.
