New Medical Achievement at Benha University Hospitals: A Minimally Invasive Surgery Restored Hope and Saved a Patient's Vision

• surgical team at Benha University Hospitals
successfully performed an advanced surgery to remove a large tumor from the pituitary gland located at the base of the skull of a 52-year-old patient, who was at real risk of total vision loss. The surgery was conducted under the supervision of :
• Prof. Samer Badi, Head of the Otolaryngology Department,
• Prof. Islam Abu Al-Fotouh, Head of the Neurosurgery Department.
The hospital had received a 52-year-old patient who was facing a genuine threat of complete vision loss after suffering from severe vision impairment, persistent headaches, and hormonal imbalances. Tests revealed a tumor pressing directly on the optic nerve. Thanks to the collaborative efforts and expertise, the tumor was completely removed using an "endoscopic sinus surgery" technique without any external surgical openings in the skull, showcasing the efficiency of the university's medical staff.
The patient is currently undergoing close monitoring after confirming the complete removal of the tumor through a CT scan, in preparation for her safe discharge.
The hospital administration expressed gratitude to the surgical team that performed the surgery, which included members from both the Neurosurgery and Otolaryngology Departments, comprising Prof. Mohamed Hamad, Professor of Neurosurgery, and Prof. Alaa Abdel-Sami, Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology, along with distinguished contributions from the teaching staff, assistant lecturers, and resident doctors from both departments.
