Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, announced that the university has adopted a plan to rationalize electricity consumption in all its facilities and units, in line with the Egyptian government's efforts to reduce electricity usage and in response to global climate changes and events affecting supply chains and fuel prices. The plan includes the following 12 measures:
1. Turn Off High-Power Lights: Switch off high-power lights in buildings and use natural light during the morning.
2. Review Electrical Facilities: Inspect all electrical facilities at the university to ensure safety and compliance with operational standards to minimize wasted electricity.
3. Solar Water Heaters: Develop a plan to transition to solar water heaters for heating water in dormitories, university hospitals, and laboratories.
4. Follow Egyptian Code: Adhere to the Egyptian code for improving energy efficiency when constructing new facilities in the future.
5. Reduce Lighting: Cut down lighting in campus pathways and entrances by half.
6. Air Conditioning Settings: Operate air conditioning units in summer at a temperature of 26°C, except in rooms requiring lower temperatures due to scientific or medical equipment.
7. Awareness Campaign: Launch a campaign in the university's faculties and administration about the importance of rationalizing electricity consumption.
8. Energy-Saving Bulbs: Use energy-saving bulbs for lighting university buildings and faculties.
9. Solar-Powered Lighting: Implement solar-powered lighting for campus fences and green areas.
10. Committee Formation: Form a committee from the engineering administration and professors from the Faculty of Engineering in Shubra and Benha to monitor electricity consumption in university buildings.
11. Disconnect Power: Ensure that electrical power is disconnected from all university facilities after official working hours.
12. Increase Solar Units: Increase the number of units operating on solar energy within the university.
