Benha University Ranked Among the First Category Universities for the Third Consecutive Year in the SCImago Spanish Ranking 2026

Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, announced that the university has been classified in the SCImago ranking for 2026 among the first category (Q1) universities in the overall index. It ranked 12th among 55 universities in Egypt and 15th among 94 academic and research institutions in Egypt. Additionally, it ranked 26th in Africa out of 345 universities and 48th in the Arab world out of 398 universities included in this edition.
Prof. El-Gizawy added that Benha University has appeared in 16 main subjects, ranking as follows among Egyptian universities:
• Agricultural and Biological Sciences: 8th
• Biochemistry, Genetics, and Molecular Biology: 24th
• Accounting and Business Management: 16th
• Chemistry: 18th
• Computer Science: 8th
• Earth Sciences: 16th
• Energy: 32nd
• Engineering: 9th
• Environmental Science: 29th
• Mathematics: 5th
• Medicine: 21st
• Toxicology and Pharmacology: 29th
• Physics and Astronomy: 7th
• Social Sciences: 6th
• Veterinary Medicine: 7th
• For the first time, Economics, Econometrics, and Finance: 15th
The university also appeared in 30 sub-disciplines.
Prof. Gehan Abdel-Hady, Vice President for postgraduate Studies and Research, indicated that Benha University ranked 12th in the research index locally, 34th in the innovation index, and 9th in the community impact index among Egyptian universities.
SCImago ranking classifies academic and research institutions through a composite index that combines research performance, innovation outputs, and community impact measured by their online presence. The research ranking indicates the size, impact, and quality of the institution's research outputs. The innovation ranking is calculated based on the number of patent applications and citations received by the institution's research outputs. Finally, the community ranking is based on the number of web pages of the institution and the number of links and mentions from social media networks.
SCImago ranking uses objective criteria and relies on Scopus databases from the global publisher Elsevier. The relative weight of the main indicators is as follows: research performance represents 50%, innovation represents 30%, and community impact represents 20% of the relative weight for the ranking. Institutions are required to publish at least 100 research papers classified in Scopus databases in the evaluation year. You can view the full ranking results through the following link:
