Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, inaugurated the activities of the Seventh Student Conference of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine under the title “From Farm to Hospital… Prevention Starts Here.”
The event was attended by Dr. Amani Abbas, Dean of the Faculty and Conference Chair; Dr. Amal Mohamed, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; Dr. Hossam Atia, former Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs and Conference Deputy Chair; Dr. Magdy Fouad, Head of the Veterinary Doctors Syndicate in Qalyubia; and Dr. Mahmoud Hamdy, Vice President of the General Syndicate of Veterinary Doctors.
The University President stated that the conference reflects the faculty's commitment to emphasizing the professional and scientific responsibility of veterinarians in combating zoonotic diseases, by strengthening epidemiological surveillance skills, biosecurity, and integration between veterinary medicine and public health.
El-Gizawy stressed that the Egyptian state attaches great importance to youth, investing in them as the nation's hope and future. He noted that the university adopts initiatives aimed at reinforcing behavioral and ethical values, highlighting the role of academic advisors in supporting and guiding students, helping them overcome academic and personal challenges, and strengthening the role of psychological and social support units in providing educational counseling and emotional support.
He warned against the dangers of irresponsible use of social media, which spreads rumors, negativity, and misleading content that affect young minds. He emphasized that society is engaged in a “battle of awareness,” which is the most important weapon against surrounding risks. He urged students to use artificial intelligence applications responsibly and professionally in scientific research, avoiding misuse in personal or social contexts.
Dr. Amani Abbas explained that the conference comes amid current momentum and directives from political leadership to review academic programs to ensure their alignment with labor market needs. She noted that the veterinary labor market is rapidly evolving, requiring veterinary education to adapt and link programs to real-world demands. The goal is to prepare veterinarians capable of protecting livestock resources, understanding the economics of animal, poultry, and fish production, and possessing employability and entrepreneurship skills.
She added that entrepreneurship has become a strategic option for veterinary graduates, who can establish their own projects such as specialized veterinary clinics, feed companies, fish farming ventures, diagnostic laboratories, and other veterinary-related enterprises.
Dr. Hossam Fouad Atia, former Vice Dean and Conference Deputy Chair, stated that the conference addressed key responsibilities of veterinarians in epidemiological surveillance, slaughterhouses, food safety, prevention of zoonotic transmission, and the study of animal-origin diseases. It also explored methods of controlling such diseases within farms and animal facilities, systems of isolation and disinfection, herd management, and reducing opportunities for infection transmission
