Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, carried out a wide-ranging inspection tour of several new university facilities. He was accompanied by prof. Taha Ashour, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; prof. Mohamed Said, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Shoubra and the University's engineering consultant; along with several faculty deans, the University Secretary-General, assistant secretaries, consultants, and engineers from the university's technical administration.
The tour began with the construction works of the new buildings for the Faculties of Applied Arts and Specific Education. The project consists of three adjacent buildings, each with a floor area of 8,200 square meters, a ground floor, and six upper floors. The complex includes 12 lecture halls accommodating 200 students each, 9 halls for 100 students, 20 specialized workshops, 40 laboratories, studios, an exhibition hall, a library, and a medical clinic. It also provides practical teaching spaces and faculty offices, designed with accessibility features for students with special needs. The project, costing over 800 million EGP, will serve more than 30,000 students. Prof. El-Gizawy urged accelerating the pace of work.
He then inspected the construction of the central lecture hall building and the University Museum, designed to expand student capacity. The project includes 50 lecture halls, each seating 200 students, with a total cost exceeding 1 billion EGP. He noted the possibility of using the building's basement for second-semester exams for the Faculties of Education and Physical Education instead of temporary tents, ensuring optimal use of university facilities while meeting safety standards. Plans also include establishing ambulance, fire, and security points to safeguard university resources.
The President also visited the second phase of the Electronic Testing Center, now 75% complete, directing that final finishing works be expedited to bring it into service soon. He inspected upgrades at the Faculty and Leadership Development Center and the Talents Care Center, as well as the construction of the new outpatient clinics and specialized medical centers building. This facility will house over 50 clinics covering all medical specialties, laboratories, radiology centers, and pharmacies, along with specialized medical units across its floors.
Other stops included the construction of Al-Rahman Al-Raheem Mosque at the Faculty of Education, nearing completion; a new car park and service center; and a “Bidaya Market” outlet. Prof. El-Gizawy also assessed olive and palm trees planted on campus as part of Egypt's “100 Million Trees” presidential initiative, aimed at combating climate change, expanding green spaces, raising environmental awareness, and generating economic benefits. He instructed the Faculty of Agriculture specialists to oversee cultivation for optimal productivity.
The tour concluded with an inspection of the new university hospital, built on a 9,042-square-meter site with two basements and seven upper floors. Project managers briefed him on completed construction phases.
Prof. El-Gizawy emphasized the importance of adhering to timelines, ensuring quality execution and finishing, and equipping facilities according to approved standards while maintaining occupational safety. He highlighted the need to maximize the use of all university assets and remove obstacles to their operation, as they represent key investments of the institution.
On the sidelines of the tour, he engaged with students to hear their views on the educational process and gauge their satisfaction, encouraging them to contribute positively to strengthening the university's image.
