Rescue of a Patient Suffering from Acute Esophageal Obstruction at Benha University Hospital

Benha University Hospitals witnessed an urgent and successful medical intervention during the Eid al-Adha holiday to save a patient who arrived at the emergency endoscopy department suffering from acute esophageal obstruction due to food impaction. This is a critical case that requires prompt medical action to avoid serious respiratory and digestive complications.
This was supervised by:
• Professor Hala El-Feky, Head of the Hepatology and Gastroenterology Department,
• Prof. Hatem Samir, Head of the Emergency Department at the university hospitals.
Upon receiving the case in the emergency department, a specialized medical team from the Hepatology and Gastroenterology Endoscopy Department handled it with speed and high efficiency. An urgent therapeutic endoscopy was performed to remove the obstruction and secure the food passage safely.
The endoscopy was conducted by Dr. Zainab Wagih and Assistant Lecturer Amani Abdel Jawad, with the participation of a nursing team consisting of Mrs. Faten and Mrs. Basma.
The patient underwent careful medical monitoring inside the hospital for 24 hours following the endoscopy, until their health condition stabilized and improved completely. The patient was discharged on Friday morning after ensuring their complete recovery.
This urgent intervention reflects the full preparedness of Benha University Hospitals during the Eid al-Adha holiday, with medical and nursing teams working around the clock to provide emergency medical services efficiently and professionally.
