Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, announced the university's advancement in the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), based in the United Arab Emirates, at both global and local levels in the 2026 edition. The university achieved 1408th place worldwide among more than 21,000 participating universities, moving up 66 positions globally. Locally, it ranked 11th among 21 Egyptian universities, advancing two places compared to the previous edition.
Prof. El-Gizawy noted that Benha University first appeared in the CWUR ranking in 2019–2020, as a result of policies adopted in the field of international rankings. These included measures to encourage researchers to publish distinguished international scientific work, support publishing in globally indexed journals, and other research support programs. Such efforts contributed to this year's progress, with the university advancing in the Research Performance Index to 1357th place, up 60 positions from the previous edition.
Prof. Gehan Abdel Hady, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, explained that CWUR selects only 2,000 universities out of 21,000 worldwide. Rankings are based on four main criteria:
Quality of Education (25%)
Alumni Employment (25%)
Quality of Faculty (10%)
Research Performance (40%), which itself includes four sub-indicators (10% each): total publications, high-quality publications, papers in high-impact journals, and research citations.
It is worth noting that the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) is a leading advisory organization headquartered in the UAE since 2012. CWUR provides policy advice, strategic insights, and consulting services to governments and universities to improve education and research outcomes. It publishes the only global academic ranking that evaluates education quality, graduate employability, research output, and citations without relying on surveys or university data submissions. Initially launched to rank the top 100 universities worldwide, CWUR expanded in 2019 to include the top 2,000 universities out of 20,000 globally.
