Benha University Hospitals successfully saved the life of a 7-year-old girl after she suffered a serious accident when a metal rod pierced her chest.
The hospital received the child in the early hours of Thursday morning, where it was found that the metal rod had penetrated her rib cage from below the right armpit to the left side, passing in front of the heart and major blood vessels before exiting from the left armpit, posing a significant threat to her life.
Coordination was made with Prof. Ibrahim Qasab, Head of the Department of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery, to summon the emergency team to handle the case urgently.
The surgical team included:
• Prof. Bassem Mofreh Iglan, Professor of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery;
• Dr. Heba Abu El-Khair, Assistant Lecturer in the department;
• Dr. Mahmoud Eid
• Dr. Mohamed Osama.
The medical team performed a delicate surgery lasting about three hours, during which they opened the chest, controlled the internal bleeding, and then carefully cut and gradually extracted the metal rod without causing injury to the heart, lungs, or major blood vessels.
The child emerged from the operating room in stable condition and was transferred to the intensive care unit for further treatment and necessary medical care.
Benha University Hospitals confirmed that this operation represents a rare and complex case that required rapid response and high medical efficiency, concluding successfully thanks to the efforts of the integrated medical team and divine intervention.
