Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, stressed that the university gives great importance to innovation and entrepreneurship, considering them key pillars for developing higher education and scientific research, and essential drivers for building a knowledge-based economy in line with Egypt Vision 2030 and the national strategy for higher education and research.
This came during his chairmanship of the meeting of innovation coordinators across the university's faculties, attended by Prof. Dr. Gehan Abdel Hadi, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Prof. Dr. Taha Ashour, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. Ayman Samir, Advisor to the President for Innovation; and faculty innovation coordinators.
Prof. El-Gizawy explained that Benha University is building an integrated system that fosters creativity by providing a stimulating academic environment encouraging students, researchers, and faculty to deliver innovative solutions to societal and industrial challenges. He emphasized that innovation has become one of the most important standards of excellence and competitiveness among universities.
He added that innovation coordinators in faculties are a cornerstone in implementing the university's strategy by spreading the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, discovering talented individuals, nurturing promising ideas, and transforming them into applied projects and startups capable of contributing to economic and social development.
Prof. Taha Ashour noted that applied and productive projects in the community service sector aim to link research with labor market needs and develop self-resources, implemented through “specialized units” or Bedaya Company to provide consultancy, scientific, production, and training services.
Dr. Ayman Samir explained that the meeting was part of the university's plan to activate innovation systems across faculties, enhance coordination among innovation coordinators and sectors, and nurture ideas from their earliest stages. He added that the coming period will witness training programs, workshops, specialized events, and internal competitions to prepare students for participation in national and international initiatives, transforming outstanding ideas into projects and startups with sustainable economic and social impact.
The meeting also discussed the university's plan to support innovation and entrepreneurship during the 2026/2027 academic year, the responsibilities of innovation coordinators, mechanisms for monitoring activities within faculties, and strategies for discovering and supporting innovators, student projects, and interfaculty collaboration in joint initiatives.
