Successful Complex Surgery to Correct Severe Spinal Deformity at Benha University Hospitals

A medical team from the Department of Neurosurgery at Benha University Hospitals has successfully performed a highly delicate and complex surgery to correct severe scoliosis and kyphosis in a 14‑year‑old girl, achieving nearly 100% correction of the deformity.
The operation was carried out under the patronage of Dr. Nasser El‑Gizawy, President of Benha University; Dr. Mohamed El‑Ashhab, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Hospitals Board; and Dr. Amr El‑Dakhakhny, Executive Director of Benha University Hospitals. It was supervised by Dr. Islam Abou El‑Fotouh, Head of the Neurosurgery Department, and Dr. Ehab Said, Head of the Anesthesia Department.
The patient had been suffering from severe forward curvature of the spine, which caused visible body misalignment, shoulder tilt, rib and scapular protrusion, and uneven waist level — all of which affected her health and required intricate surgical intervention due to the complexity of the case.
Using the latest surgical techniques, the medical team achieved an almost complete correction of the deformity. This marks the fourth case performed by the department within its specialized program for complex scoliosis and kyphosis surgeries, reflecting the significant advancements at Benha University Hospitals in this highly specialized field.
The surgical team included Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Daabes, Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery; Dr. Ali Sabry Ali, Lecturer of Neurosurgery; Dr. Mohamed El‑Omrawy, Assistant Lecturer of Neurosurgery; and Dr. Diaa El‑Negdy, Resident of Neurosurgery. The anesthesia team was led by Dr. Asmaa Fath El‑Bab and Dr. Mohamed Abdel‑Razek, with the participation of several resident doctors and the nursing staff.
