Benha University Strengthens Its Research Role in Supporting Industry and Innovation within Sustainable Development Goal 9

Benha University's data on Sustainable Development Goal 9 (SDG 9) — Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure — revealed outstanding research performance between 2020 and July 1, 2026. The university published a total of 520 scientific papers, which received 10,532 citations, averaging 20.3 citations per paper, while recording a global Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) of 1.92.
The data showed that 248 papers received research funding, while 200 papers achieved a technology readiness level (TRL ≥ 4), reflecting the university's orientation toward applied innovation and linking scientific research with industry needs.
Statistics confirmed that 41% of the published research represents a promising base for industrial application, reinforcing the university's role in supporting a knowledge-based economy and transforming research outputs into practical solutions that serve productive sectors.
Scientific publishing witnessed remarkable growth in recent years: the number of papers rose from 38 in 2020 to 125 in 2025, achieving a total growth of 229% during the period. By July 2026, 73 papers had already been published.
Top Research Fields by Output:

Agriculture and Food Security — 66 papers
Electrical Power Systems and Control — 46 papers
Water Resources Management — 36 papers
Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Digital Technologies — 31 papers
Together, these fields represent 58.4% of the total research output related to SDG 9.

In strengthening partnerships with industry, the university identified promising opportunities in industrial digital transformation, agriculture and food security, smart manufacturing, environmental and climate sustainability, and water and pollution treatment.
The university also recorded 251 papers exceeding the global FWCI average, representing 48.3% of total output. In addition, 14 patent families cited Benha University's research, while 11 papers were referenced in patents. The university hosts two specialized incubators to support innovation and entrepreneurship: the Biotechnology Incubator and the Medical and Laboratory Devices Incubator.
These indicators highlight Benha University's growing role as a leading academic institution in supporting industrial innovation and achieving sustainable development goals, by directing scientific research toward areas with direct economic and societal impact.
