Benha University Vice Presidents Welcome Former Minister of Finance

Prof. Gehan Abdel Hadi, Vice President of Benha University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and prof. Taha Ashour, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, welcomed Dr. Mohamed Maait, former Minister of Finance, during his participation in a workshop entitled “Egypt Beyond the Fund: Does the National Program Possess the Foundations of Financial Sustainability?” organized by the Faculty of Commerce in Benha University.
The event was attended by Dr. Soheir Shaarawy Gomaa, former Vice President of Benha University for Postgraduate Studies and Research and Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Benha National University; Dr. Magdy Meligy, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce; Dr. Sami Ghoneimy, former Dean of the Faculty; faculty vice‑deans; Ms. Rania Moataz, Assistant Secretary‑General for Community Service and Environmental Development; along with a number of faculty members and teaching assistants.
Prof. Abdel Hadi emphasized that the workshop reflects the University's commitment to fostering academic and societal dialogue on pressing economic issues, while offering students, researchers, and faculty members the opportunity to benefit from specialized expertise and experiences in economics and financial policy.
Dr. Magdy Meligy noted that the workshop addressed several key themes concerning the future of Egypt's economy. The first theme, “From 2016 to Beyond the Fund,” reviewed Egypt's economic journey since the 2016 program, subsequent agreements with the International Monetary Fund, and the structural changes in the Egyptian economy during this period, alongside lessons learned from engagement with the Fund that can inform the post‑Fund phase. Discussions also explored the future relationship between Egypt and the IMF, considering whether it might evolve from one largely centered on financing and reform programs to a partnership focused more on technical and institutional support and knowledge exchange.
He added that the second theme examined “The National Program Beyond the Fund,” stressing the need for it to represent not merely an extension of past reform programs, but a genuine transition toward a more sustainable economic model—capable of supporting growth, ensuring financial stability, and strengthening Egypt's resilience in facing future challenges.
