Benha University Announces Results of the “Green Loop Competition 2026” for Campus Waste Management

Benha University concluded the internal competition for campus waste management, “Green Loop Competition 2026”, organized by the Innovators and Talents Care Fund in cooperation with the Leadership Development Institute. The competition reflects the university's commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, promoting sustainability and circular economy concepts, and encouraging students to develop creative solutions to environmental challenges.
The closing ceremony was attended by Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University; Prof.Gehan Abdel Hady, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Prof.Taha Ashour, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Ayman Samir, Advisor to the University President for Innovation; Dr. Ahmed Abdel Nabi Nazir, representative of the Innovators and Talents Care Fund; Ms. Rania Moataz, Assistant Secretary-General for Community Service and Environmental Affairs; Ms. Renee Ashraf, Fund Coordinator; along with members of the judging and organizing committees, innovation coordinators from the faculties, and participating students. Prof. El-Gizawy stressed that Benha University places great importance on supporting creative students and transforming their innovative ideas into practical, applicable projects. He noted that waste management and recycling represent vital areas for innovation, contributing directly to achieving sustainable development goals. He added that the university is keen to provide a supportive environment for promising ideas, helping students develop them into impactful solutions that address societal challenges and generate positive economic and social outcomes. Prof. Gehan Abdel Hady highlighted the importance of supporting applied research and student initiatives that combine innovation with community impact. She explained that the projects showcased in the competition reflect the ability of Benha University students to apply their scientific knowledge in devising practical solutions to environmental challenges, bridging academic work with societal needs. Prof. Taha Ashour emphasized the university's role in serving the community and advancing environmental development by encouraging projects that offer sustainable, scalable solutions and spread the culture of sustainability and circular economy both within and beyond the campus. Prof.Ayman Samir, Advisor to the University President for Innovation, described the competition as a vital platform for discovering promising ideas and supporting students in transforming them into practical solutions in waste management and recycling. He confirmed that the university will continue to support outstanding projects, preparing them for participation and competition in upcoming national stages. The competition witnessed the participation of 34 projects—30 from undergraduate students and 4 from postgraduate students—with 10 projects advancing to the final stage. Teams presented detailed proposals before the judging committee, covering technical, environmental, and economic aspects, as well as feasibility and scalability. The top three winning projects will represent Benha University in the national rounds, with continued support for outstanding initiatives in line with the committee's recommendations. At the conclusion of the event, Benha University extended its appreciation to the Innovators and Talents Care Fund, the judging and organizing committees, faculty innovation coordinators, and participating students for their efforts in making the competition a success and promoting innovation in sustainability and waste management.
