BU is governmental university traced its roots to the first high school of Agriculture in Egypt, founded in 1911. BU is one of the prestigious Universities in Egypt and the Arab region. It has 16 facilities, 146 scientific departments, 4900 staff members serving more than 100 thousand students. The university runs four hospitals.
BU has wide international collaboration with many of the prestigious institutions all over the world. A lot of MoUs and Agreements were signed focusing on student & staff exchange, joint-educational programs (Double degree and credit transfer programs) as well as joint labs and international research activities. BU is a member of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Universities (SCU), a member of the European Association of Institutions in Higher Education (EURASHE), a member of the Association of Arab Universities (AArU) and in progress member of the Association of African Universities (AAU) BU is a member of well-known international academic bodies such as being an executive committee member of the University Alliance of Silk Road (UASR). Because of its international reputation, BU is increasingly attracting more international students from the Arab, Asian and African countries.
Benha University (BU) traced its roots to the first high school of Agriculture in Egypt, founded in 1911, then as a branch of Zagazig University in 1976. In 2005, BU has been separated as an independent comprehensive university.

In the context of the State's strategic plan to expand university education to improve the standard of living of the Egyptian citizen and reach the international rates of university education, Benha University adopted the same context by launching the activation of the Obour Campus to be an enlightenment centre that provides educational, research and environmental services in Obour area and surrounding regions. This serves the citizens of Qalubia, Cairo and Sharqiya governorates.
Three programs started already in September 2019. These are Law – English Section, Commerce – English Section, and Biotechnology Program.
