Under the auspices of Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, and Prof. Jehan Abdel-Hadi, Vice President of the University for postgraduate Studies and Research, the Faculty of Science organized a scientific seminar titled "Artificial Intelligence and Its Role in Criminal Investigation" for students in the “Biological and Chemical Sciences in Forensic Evidence” program at the Benha University campus in Al-Obour City.
This event was attended by :
• Prof. Mohamed Heikal, Dean of the Faculty of Science,
• Prof. Hazem Aliwa, Academic Director of the university campus in Al-Obour City,
• Prof. Nahid Al-Barqi, Vice- Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development,
• Prof. Mohamed Abu Riya, Vice- Dean for Education and Student Affairs,
• Prof. Mona Fawzy, Head of the Entomology Department,
• Zakaria Abdel-Hamid, an expert in combating material and electronic fraud in forgery and counterfeiting research at the Forensic Medicine Authority,
• Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Raouf, Program Coordinator.
Prof. Mohamed Heikal stated that the seminar addressed the tremendous advancements witnessed globally over the past two decades in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), and how these technologies have begun to play a role in many areas, including the field of criminal justice.
The seminar also highlighted how many countries have started using these technologies extensively to predict crimes as part of their efforts to enhance security. AI has contributed to providing compelling evidence to judicial authorities regarding crimes, in addition to supplying information and clues to security agencies to unravel complex criminal cases. Furthermore, it plays an important and sensitive role alongside Cybersecurity and digital forensic investigations.
