The interaction between obesity and fertility has received increasedattention owing to the recent and rapid increase in the prevalence of theobesity worldwide. Several studies was done to explain the relationshipbetween obesity and poor semen quality and resulting poor male fertilityThe present study was done to assess the effect of obesity on spermparameters including sperm concentration, morphology and progressivelymotile sperm count. This study was conducted on 150 subjects selected from attendantsof the Dermatology and Andrology outpatients clinic, Benha UniversityHospital. They were divided equally into three groups: group A, group B,and group C according to their BMI.Group A (n=50): Normal weight cases (20> BMI< 25kg/m2).Group B (n=50): Overweight cases (BMI > 25kg/m2 & <30 kg/m2).Group C (n=50): Obese with BMI > 30 kg /m2).Medical history was taken, general examination was done toexclude patients with known male factor known to affect fertility. BMI iscalculated and semen analysis was done. The results showed that:There were significant difference between groups (A, B and C )(p< 0.05) regarding the total progressive motile sperm count means thatthe total progressive motile sperm count is decreased with increasingBMI in overweight & obese. This reveal negative correlation betweentotal progressively motile sperms count and BMI.Sperm concentration showed significant difference between thethree groups, group A, group B, and group C. This reveal negativecorrelation between sperm concentration and BMI.Significant difference in the percentage of normal spermmorphology between the three groups, group A, group B, and group C.This reveal negative correlation between the percentage of normal spermmorphology and BMI.In conclusion, It was found that male obesity is associated withincreased incidence of low sperm concentration, low percentage ofnormal sperm morphology with increase the incidence of sperms withabnormal forms and low progressively motile sperm count
