Students who join departments of English in the faculties of education have been confronted with the problem that they have to study original English texts immediately after being used to the study of simplified English during the pre-university stages. Research has shown that this problem is attributed to the non-stategic vocabulary learning. To find an answer to this problem, this research study followed a certain procedure. First, it identified the language learning strategies in general as well as learner and text characteristics with the conclusion of selecting four strstegies to be developed as asuggested course. These strategies are inference, dictionary use, semantic mapping and the keyword. Second, vocabulary learning and vocabulary learning strategis are dealt with theoretically as well as through previous rsearch studies. Third acourse on developing the selected vocabulary leraning strategies was designed. The researcher dealt with the bases of designing this course and detailed description of each lesson.
