I wish to express my profound gratitude and indebtedness to dr. Ramses Awad, my academie superviser, for the patient help the constant and unfaltering attention he has given me while preparing this work, especially at the initial stage when his invaluable advice was most urgently needed. His prompt readiness to give so much of his time to the scrupulous revision of the translation, his fruitful discussions and his illuminating comments have been one of the major assets on which I have heavily drawn.
