The surgically removed specimens submitted for this study include 30 tonsils and 20 adenoids. All the specimens were processed for the following tests... Suckling mice inoculation and Vero cell cultures wereused for virus isolation from specimen’s cell suspension.•Enteroviruses were isolated from 6 tonsils and 2 aden-oids, and the virus isolates were typed by virus neutrali-zation test.•Also, paraffin sections of tonsils and adenoids stainedwith fluorescin labelled antihuman IgE. Increased densityof IgE surface bearing lymphocytes was revealed in 20 tonsils cases (69%) and 15 adenoid cases (75%)... There was a correlation between the density of cellwith surface IgE and the isolation of an enterovirus from the suspension of the same specimen.
