Stem cell transplantation is a major advancement in our modemmedicine. Stem cell research is going on in many fields. Many patientsacross the whole world are waiting this new hope. However, this new”magic” solution appears to have expensive coasts, and severalcomplications of the procedure affect adversely every aspect of thepatient’s life. Advances in the future will make this procedure more safeand practical, through, better stem cell banking, better selection of thepatients, more available sources of stem cells, easier donation, lowerintensity of conditioning regimens, inutero stem cell transplantation, andearly recognition and management of complications. We evaluate with great respect the experience of ”MansoraUniversity Children Hospital- stem cell transplantation unit” that initiatesand develops this new field in Egypt. Mansora University was the 15tEgyptian university that perform stem cell transplantation. In general, there was a good results among autologous stem cellrecipient that was comparable in many instances with recent publishedoutcomes of international centers. In contrast, high mortalities wereobserved in allogeneic stem cell recipients in Mansora, However, thesmaller allogeneic group didn’t allow a fair evaluation in this context.Complications were recorded in both groups, they were more severe inallogeneic group. Some of known complications were not recorded inboth groups, this was related to the recent experience in Mansora whilesome complications occurred lately and there was no specific screeningfor some complications.Assessment of Quality of life is an important indicator to thepatient’s psychosocial aspects after the procedure. In Mansora, Stem cellSummary and Conclusionrecipients showed variable degree of life satisfaction after stem celltransplantation, while their parents appeared more anxious and stressedafter the procedure. We concluded that expenence of Mansora university childrenHospital in stem cell transplantation was satisfactory in general. Despiteit was costly and in some occasions mortalities and serious morbiditiesoccurred. Yet, it worth’s to try to overcome this obstacles and toencourage these valuable efforts.
