This work deals with the subject of management of multiple road traffic accident injuries from the moment the patient is seen at the scene of the accident until reception in the emergency room and performance of the investigations for definitive diagnosis and treatment. This includes the first aid measurements and management of life threatening injuries as soon as possible. Then comes the stage of transportation to and reception in the hospital during which we try to improve the general condition and restore the impaired vital functions. During this stage the patient is still under observation. Invest-igations which help to diagnose, to clear obscurity - ifpresent -, to define priorities of treatment and to disclose hidden, but expected, injuries are performed. It is noted that there are some cases in which the patient is admitted to the operating theatre immediately as when a major blood vessel is injured producing haemorrhage. Thereafter the work deals with diagnosis of the various body injuries and definition of the lines of treatment proposed to be followed in a concise, but comprehensive, manner as possible. It is noted that ment ioning the details of the operative procedures and methods for preparation has been avoided. Also, there is some complications which may occur as a result of negligence on the part of the attendant surgeon. These complications, producing no or little symptoms and signs when the patient is received, have been taken into consideration from the first while we see the patient . |
