This thesis included the study of the role of magnetic resonanceimaging (MRI) examination in the detection and characterization ofmalignant tumors of the breast.The review of literature enclosed the anatomical background of thebreast as well as the pathologic bases of the benign and malignant breasttumors. The indications of MRl examination of the breast and the MRlappearance of malignant breast tumors were also revised.The practical work included the MRl examination of20 cases,presenting with breast lesions suspicious for malignancy using doublebreast coil. The examination protocol included the rapid dynamic imagingwithin the first ten minutes after I.V. injection of gadolinum contrastagent.The MRl examination was preceded by clinical evaluation of thecases as well as mammographic and sonographic examination.The results of this study showed the value ofMRl in increasingdetectability of malignant breast lesions especially in cases ofmammographically dense breasts and recurrent breast tumors as well asthe detection of multicentrcity and breast tumors located near the chestwall. The thesis showed also the value of delayed imaging aftergadolinium injection in differentiation between benign and malignantbreast tumors on the basis of different morphological and quantitativesigns.
