... ..,~. ~ ..§ummary: //In the present study, ”(26patients( undergoing open heart surgery were subjectedto audiological evaluation pre and POStopenltively to study the effect ofsuch operations on bearing and to explain the possible aetiology of occasionalsudden hCarlng loss reported by others. Three groups we•re .developed, thosewith no loss (10 patients) , those with non singificant changes (11 patients) andthose with average bearing defficit of 10 dB ( 2 pati~ ) . In all cases thechanges occured bilaterally.Embolism seems to be unlikely aetiology of such hearing loss as all patientsin our series were young with no arterioscIerotic cerebrovasular disease andbearing loss occlUed ~ralby. bi ~QttYAlr ,,The perfusion failure theory seems to be a POssible exp~on of bearingloss as in all cases the affection was bilateraL However ototoxic drogs can notbe excluded as a possible cause.
