Legionella specics are ubiquitous in the aquatic environment , they live in natural waters and can be found in airconditioning cooling towers water , airconditioning condenstate and water reservoirs . Although they constitute only asmall proportion of total bacterial count , L .Pneumophila and other members of legionellae can cause severe pneumonias or acute respiratory insufficiency. It is now considered as one of the nosocomial agents. In this work legionella was isolated from 10 out of 100 environmental samples and 2 out of 100 immunocompromized patients. Environmental samples were collected from different departments by both swabbing and water sampling wethods Water samples were concentrated by centrifugation at 2000 rpm. Samples were cultured on B.C.Y.E media which was supplemented with B.C.Y.E growth supplement. BMPA and M.W.Y selective supplements.
