in recent years more emphasis has been given to silent reading in the secondary stage. howwever, alarge number of teachers don,t provide enough time for their students to practise the skills of silent reading . therefore, the purpose of the study was to investigate whether or not silent reading emphasis leads to significant improvement in students ability to focus more attention and thereby gain better comprehension.
